I am longing for OpenSUSE 10.3, since OpenSUSE 10.2 keeps crashing on all the machines I have installed it. I never had this kind of problems with previous releases.

Well, it is only some hours until i have the chance to download the full Version of Opensuse 10.3 I have seen the changes in RC1 and it has blown me away with the improvement in login logout response time, and how fast the repositories are handled for me so i can start installing come new apps. Really happy with this since i have been a windows fanatic for about 13 years, and well it was not an easy task to change OS’s but i have found better grounds with Linux specially with openSUSE. Really guys this is a great advancement and you are doing the world a favor with all that you do for it. Thanx for all your efforts in making this the Best Distro in the Linux World.

Hoping that the 10.3 release will have faster updating. It takes forever for my online updates to process, regardless of my connection speed, type, number of updates or update size. So far that has really been my only complaint against 10.2. Much better, more functional and I think more user friendly than Ubuntu. Rock on OpenSUSE team.

I’m frenetically waiting for suse 10.3. Ii hope the some of the present problems on 10.2 have been resolved: a faster update, a faster yast, a faster start and login, etc.
I will install suse 10.3 until the final release of kde 4.0, so I have to be patience.
Nice job guys!!!

I’m greatly anticipating 10.3. I tried to install 10.2 off of the CD .isos a few weeks ago, and my install failed as it hung up when retrieving packages; this happened twice, and on both cases I was kicked out to a text install and was unable to complete the install. This occurred with CD 3, and the MD5 checked out, so I’m not sure why it happened — I’m hoping it was just some kind of sync issue with the repos, and it will be resolved in 10.3; if not, I might try to get the DVD box (sadly, I have a DVD reader and not writer).

I’ve used openSUSE since 10.0 and looking towards 10.3 ’cause I’ve enjoyed every release. No doubt there are different kind of things to improve, but the advantages are much greater than the minor issues.

Thank you, for this great OS!!!

Hi
does anyone know if a 10.3RC1 can be upgraded to 10.3 via updates once it is final ?
Or is a new installation necessary ?

thx

opensuse 10.2 is annoying on YasT.But the real problem of openSuse is when checking dependencies in Yast.It already checked, but when i installing a new program, it won’t detected.I hope it’ll be fixed in 10.3

Soundcard, Microphone and WebCam: Will OpenSuse 10.3. finally automatically install a WebCam (with microphone) and allow a good help/modules for installation and individual tests of these equipments?
By a last updating (Sept. 2007) of OpenSuse 10.2. my sound-card was identified very well and could be installed with Yast but the sound did non work anymore: it seems there was a problem of updated Kernel with respect to yast sound-module.

Will OpenSuse 10.3. CD/DVD finally allow to boot immediately the boot-partition with an individual item e.g. “Boot of the OpenSuse partition”, without going through the long process of installation of OpenSuse via CD/DVD and an acknowledgment of SuSe Licence?

Thank you to all people working on OpenSuse

Does anyone know what time it will be released today? I’m having a release party at 18:00 Western Europe time, which means that by 17:00 I need to have downloaded, with my slow connection, the X86 DVD iso, install it on my laptop and make 26 copies. I have to say, I am really excited about this.

I’ve been using openSUSE and SuSE before it, since 9.2 as a part time thing, since 10.1 at home full time, and since about 4 months ago, also on my work laptop, and I have to say, this is (I don’t know why) the most can’t-wait-for-it release yet :)

I can’t wait to download it. Started with openSuSE, went to Ubuntu, and back to openSuSE. As I could see this release will be TOP, and I hope a lot of changes will be done in the performace field. REGARDS to the openSuSE TEAM!

Hey How it always has worked in the past is they wait until the middle of the day around 3pm central time . I am not sure if it will be the same this time, but they usually take a bit of time to change all the links and pages then upload it to their ftp server. Just a thought.
All i know
is in all the years i have used *nix including the BSD line of *nix this one will most definitely prove to be the hottest one out there. Hands down
Thank you Andreas and the team!

As of this moment (Oct. 4, 2007 - 09:50 Romania time (GMT+2) ) the only mirror that holds the ISO images for the DVDs is here :
ftp://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/opensuse/distribution/10.3/iso/dvd/ (Gm for i386, x86_64 and PPC , not the Live DVD yet)
At least I haven’t found any other yet…
Unfortunatelly for me, downloading from there is not an option (too slow…, at least compared to my preferred local mirror for SUSE)

Download keeps failing…. Guess I’ll have to wait for the official release……. :-(

No, GM is meaning for “GoldMaster” This is internal pre-release distributed on 27th September.

I’m still waiting for public release here in Croatia. (Local time is 09:47 AM)

Comment by Crusoe
2007-10-04 08:32:45

But this “GM” is written on every Version which you can download, please take a look at the Version 10.2 oder 10.1. Why this releases have also a “GM” in the filename?
Thanks for your help :)

Comment by Grof
2007-10-04 10:18:13

Really? Sounds good :) 55% :D
I hope that the GM boot as fast as the RC1 I have downloaded. I think it has become faster in all applications than the Version 10.1 and 10.2

I’m now downloading via a torrent from the installation CD that I found on openSUSE.org.

Hope it works!

Think we’ve to wait a little longer for the public release. Here in The Netherlands its already 2.38pm. But in NYC its only 8.38am!
So I think the openSUSE team has just woken up..

Keep up the good work!

I think that I’ll be waiting for the ones on the suse site, this links you guys have put here are super slow, I’m running a T1 connection and after 20 minutes I only heve 4% downloaded. I feel sorry for the dude Niv KA that from the Island, I think you’re going to see it on Saturday there men. Anyways it’s almost 9:00am here in Boston and no change yet on the servers.

I think more than 700KByte/s aren’t slow… I use the Server of tu-chemnitz.
And when it is to slow for you, then you can combine the sources :)

I started with SuSE 8.2 then 9.1. 9.3 10.1.2 and now 10.3, all programmes used on the same p.c a Pentium 3 1000mhz 512 ram.
I am very impressed by the improvements since version 8.2, many programs run better and faster now. Booting is much faster also.
Also wifi with ndiswrapper runs very nice. Congratulations.

I got my feet wet with openSUSE 10.2 and I must say this is a great thing you are doing for everyone. I told my co-workers that as long as there is a version of openSUSE out there I will never have a Windows OS on my system. 10.3 has been also been a great experience for me. Great job and I look forward to your future efforts.
