I'd appreciate USB live images a lot - since even 8GB sticks are affordable, the whole DVD could be put on a stick. Not only for testing, but as well later productive. Why? On business trips, I carry my company notebook (windows) and can't carry a 2nd notebook. I'd love to have my normal linux environment with me on 8GB or 16GB in the near future for usage during my spare time. I'd even buy such a stick (pre-configured) and shell out some € more to support the opensuse project.

Testing openSUSE 10.3 Beta 1
After some small problems with installing from ISO-DVD I catched a bad Problem updating with Yast. It worked well, but on friday 30. Aug. after loading Yast-updates and some KDE4 pakets Yast crashed with following error:
YaST got signal 11 at YCP file /usr/share/YaST2/clients/inst_packages.ycp:39
/sbin/yast2: line 385: 4301 Speicherzugriffsfehler $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2QT_ARGS

Now I can no more change without using rpm unload? But which is the error causing Programm? Who can help me? Is there a bug in Yast?

I'm waiting for the final Version 10.3
Thanks

"I wish i had a dime for every time i had to pkill -HUP kio_thumbnail because it was eating 99% of the cpu."

I wish I had one bugreport from when it happened with the file that caused the busyloop, then we at the KDE Team @SUSE could fix the problem.

Bugreporting > moaning.

Yes I did. It seems that my second hard drive which has some bad sectors is the cause of the problem. I physically disconnected the drive and installed openSUSE :)
With other distributions I usually don't specify mount points for the second drive and everything goes fine. Unfortunatelly, it did not work with this time.

I have a show stopper when installing the KDE CD, after doing a custom partition edit the installer shows the "Evaluating Package Selection" message then it stops. I can still click the options, back and abort buttons but nothing happens. I tried the installer with different options and with the minimum number of partitions to mount but with no avail :(

I dont understand all the fuzz about sw_single.
Yes it takes a long time to load, but I think that lately i.e. in beta2 there has been huge differences to the last versions.
The way you easily add repositories nicely listed on opensuses homepage makes adding win32 codes etc. much easier than any other distro I've used ever.
I've tried Mandrake, Ubuntu, Xandros, Fedora, you name it. But nothing has beaten yast sw_single.
Again yes it took forever to load, but it worked. Also the way you easily can fix dependency errors. But the forever load is more or less fixed now.
I also agree with the above, about why loading 500 files instead of just one bz'ed file. But I guess that something like that is on its way since they are developing so much on the application at the moment. Its going in the right direction.

One of the really great things in 10.3 is the boot time. Damn it is fast....
I really love the way that opensuse is going right now.
Happy happy faces from here :-)
