Quickies: openSUSE 10.3 Beta3+ Live-CDs, 10.3 Beta 3 Report, oSC Changes, KDE 4.0 Beta 2

Stephan Kulow has announced Live-CD builds (GNOME, KDE ISOs) based on the openSUSE 10.3 Beta3plus packages. tuxmachines.org published their report on and screenshots of openSUSE 10.3 Beta 3. The openSUSE-Community site got a facelift and offers 1-click-install definitions for 10.3 packages. KDE 4.0 Beta 2 has been released and as usual unsupported packages are available as well as a new “KDE Four Live” CD which was created with Kiwi.
Well, I downloaded both Live CDs and took them for a quick spin on my Acer Aspire 1644WMLi Notebook [ http://en.opensuse.org/HCL/Laptops/Acer#Aspire ], on which openSUSE 10.2 is running perfectly well, but still same old issue of oversized fonts; desktop icons, open program window menus and kdm greeter and login screen options (kde edition), gdm greeter and login screen options (Gnome edition).
I can not do much more because the old (live cd beta 1 = linux) root password does not work. Could someone please post the password for root.

The above xorg.conf monitor section is from openSUSE beta 3+ Gnome Live CD.

The cause of ALL my problems above (and with previous Beta and Alpha versions) was the new “intel” experimental modprobe graphics driver! I reverted back to the old intel “i810″ graphics driver and ALL OK now! Great, I can now check out 10.3 and see what all the rave is about.
The workaround for reverting back to i810 (from the release notes in 10.3 RC1)is following:
in init 3 console mode, code: ‘sax2 -r -m i810‘ (without inverted commas)
and use code:sax2 -r to go back to the default new “intel” driver.
I will be submitting a bug report for my hardware, soon!
Worked out the password issue, none used (blank)!
Still unable to boot the beta. Kiwi tell’s me it can’t find the CD-drive en hangs
Like superjan kiwi reports it can’t see the cdrom, this is with the GNOME cd. Will try the KDE spin now.

I tried the lot and had no trouble booting (but plenty of other issues) from the CD-ROM drive (I posted the first 3 messages above), did you check your md sums and did you burn the isos at the lowest speed you could?
Maybe you should check whether your bios is enabled to boot from the CD-ROM drive.
