The openSUSE release is not only available for free download but also as separate boxed product to buy from retail shops and internet shops. The box product contains two DVDs for 32-bit x86 and 64-bit x86-64 systems which have the complete ftp tree of the openSUSE 10.3 distribution. Additionally, it comes with a printed start up manual and free installation support.

As with every openSUSE release — and also previously with SUSE Linux releases — we have sent out during the last week to upstream package maintainers, the openSUSE translation teams and to active bug reporters an openSUSE 10.3 box for free to say thank you!

The live version of openSUSE 10.3 is now available as a GNOME or KDE CD. Both contain the same software as the 1 CD installation versions would provide you with, but as a live version.

The live system can be used as a productive system or rescue system. You can also use it to just check out how openSUSE 10.3 runs on your computer without touching your hard drive. The Live CDs are available as 32bit versions in US English only and also contain, for the first time, an install option on the desktop. You can see a screenshot of the KDE Live CD below:

If you click on the Install icon you will be guided through the installation of openSUSE 10.3 onto your hard drive.

For now the images are available at:

The Live CDs version will be incorporated into software.openSUSE.org over the next few days.

Have a lot of fun!
The openSUSE team

The casual reader of news.opensuse.org knows that openSUSE 10.3 contains a YaST tool for creating images using KIWI. However, it is not that known fact that openSUSE 10.3 contains much more tools to manipulate RPM-based software and wrap it into a numerous ways for delivery, from a simple repository to a complete appliance creation. The picture below describes how the tools fit together.
