there are huge problems with the install of live cd's at the moment. Unfortunately, it should be taken down from the download page until they have it working. You are just one of many who have wasted time downloading and trying to install it because they have left it up. Just hold in there until the next release and hopefully this time it will work

Hello, and first, thanks for openSuse
I tried to install openSuse 1 beta 1 (Live-CD x64) on my pc, which is a dual boot between vista and Linux.
I have two windows partitions (plus the Linux ones), one for the os and one for files.
When I tried to install the beta, there was an error at the time when the installer formats the disk with the required partition.
Here is the screenshot I took from the problem: http://bayimg.com/AaJjfaABi
I am not knowledgeable enough to be able to solve this, so I thought I would tell it here so that it doesn't appear in the final version. There is also a problem when you select french at the first screen of the installation, it does not show the license in french (but maybe it is normal).

I don't think it's bad. This way you don't have to restart the package manager if you realize that you have to add a repository, and it's not a problem as typically you modify repos because you want to install software after that.

AFAIK bot 3.5 and 4.0 will be on the DVD and there will be a 4.0 CD. (I don't think what Fedora does is a good idea - 3.5 is definitely better for the end user right now, openSUSE has to do a lot of polishing and backporting to make it usable by the time of 11.0. Newer doesn't mean better yet in this case.) But in this thread the problem was that openSUSE 11.0 won't be delayed until KDE 4.1 and that's why I proposed 11.0-with-KDE4 installation media for those who do not want to download 4.0 and the update to 4.1.

I see some good comments on here, then i see a bunch of people complaining and whinning. I have used SuSe and OpenSuse since its beginning. I have had few issues. I know there are some legitable complaints, but those seem to be more of a bug issue and those are others that are legit sound to be more of a suggestive matter. which is fine. they have a place for both of those, as well a contact email to write to suggest ideas. the rest of you cutting down opensuse for it not being this or that, get a life. this is a BETA RELEASE. meaning not production ready nor is it perfect. this is the time that the OpenSuse team looks for bugs and works out showstoppers and takes in creative ideas from the right channels. You will not get any results bitching about it in here. learn how to use the right websites for things. look on the wiki for all the info you need , such as suggestions, bugs, and so on. but do not undermine the huge efforts people contribute to this project. you understand these people volunteer their time. FREE HELP. but its much more then that. they pour their hearts and creativity into making something special for you the user. remember that the next time you want to talk bad about the most user friendly and volunteer intesive work they put into making sure you are happy. remember that, and show some respect and appreciation when it comes to the best damn linux that could have been made. something linus and others have come to love about a real solid linux, that has been around alot longer then these hybrid linux's comming, and will be here long after they are gone.OpenSuse is not just a linux os, it is an adventure of the creative soul and a mind and heartbeat ticking to the very core of creativity. help make it better not complaints and bitching.

Great to see KDE4 has finally been polished here. I was hoping that the openSuSE team would take these issues into account, and from what I see they have. One of the main things, surprisingly, in user friendliness is polish.Even if it's quite hard to use, often the user feels more at home when everything is integrated, there aren't strange square bits sticking out and the colour scheme is rounded. It's really quite amazing how much these little things affect it all.

Anyway, great job! :) Looking forward to 50 days time.....

The yast package manager still very slow.

It could synchronize like "smart". Lose a long time to refresh the repositories one by one.

people shouldn't have to, the moment it is found that the live cd wont install the option to download it should be removed. Instead of leaving it up there so people waste their time downloading it.
