Why not use openSuSE 11.0 with KDE 3.5 iso KDE 4.0 ?
Actually I use openSuSE 11.0 with KDE3.5 as my main DT (work related) and play around with KDE 4.0 for now, will switch later this year or in January '09. I even like Gnome now ;)

What I do is open 3 sessions (different users) and switch between them with Ctrl+Alt+F7 - F8 - F9 for resp. KDE3.5 - KDE4.0 - Gnome.

That is really fun.

I've used openSUSE since 10.2. I used to use KDE for my daily work, but now I use gnome desktop of openSUSE11. KDE is easy for newbies and many kde softwares is user-friendly. But now I like GNOME better since It's more effective and saves more memory. Many famours softwares are made using gtk and run smoothly with GNOME. Hope GNOME of openSUSE become better and better!

I love OpenSuse. I use it more then Windoze now. That being said, my version is 10.3 --
Then I heard all the hoopla about version 11.0 and I pondered getting it for a bit, but decided to wait til everyone else tried it. I could continue using 10.3 and keep an eye on the reviews for 11.0 - glad I did that.

However, many well-known and no-so-well-known commentators and reviewers have made their spew about how great it is. I believe that to be premature. Looks are one thing, but functionality is another, and compatibility. and another yet is, availability to software that one is accustomed too.

I did eventually try 11.0 from a clean install, but formatted and put back 10.3 -- and why? Well.. these following things:

ARK wasn't working in the KDE version of 11.0 and someone on #suse IRC told me to install 3.5.9 KDE (thats what I had BEFORE 11.0).
That top-right WIDGET ICON MENU on the desktop, or whatever it is called kept interfering with me trying to close a maximized window.
My WINE 'World of Warcraft' was having some issues and seemed slower than on 10.3

and there were a few personal touches I didn't like.. so as said prior, I love OpenSuse, but I'll stick with 10.3 for now.

EyeCandy is nice, but I prefer speed and less of it (effects).
