Because not everybody was aware of the contest and wondered a little bit about the reminder mail, we extended the deadline for the YaST mascot contest. The new deadline for the submissions is November 09, 12:00 UTC. Participate, show us your vision of the mascot! We are not only searching for a sketch/picture of the mascot, also for a name. The winners will get all the fame and a stuffed Geeko! So get your pencils/mice/brains ready :-)

More information with the rules in the wiki page.

Just use a big chameleon, with big eyes, and curly tail. Call him Chip

I would prefer a Wrench or a Monkey Wrench with eyes and hands making the ok signal with its right hand. Its name could be YastY! or YastYs!

That Eager Beaver is cute, but I think there shouldn’t be a Y (Why) on its belly.

Instead of that Y (Why) there should be “That’s Y”. A wordplay, you know…
And it should be big, because Yast is a great tool.

There should be two mascots. One the SUSE chameleon and the other, a bug. SUSE eats the bug…

Hmm, not that good of an idea as I read it to myself. :(

Eager Beaver, in any of the two green versions (without that dark snout), is pretty good

as linux started be made in fnland (northern side of world) by linus torwalds, and penguin mascot “tux” lives in south pole, and it’s mistake, thats why it should be bear, because ancient finnish people worshipped bear, and now every nerd or somebody would would know this all, in finland there is many name for bear “mesikämmen, kontio, otso, nalle” kämmen is its hand and mesi is honey, nalle is every childs sleepingtoy. we here in finland don’t have polar bears but?

I got to ask why do we need this? Yast is an integral part of Opensuse. If one decides to fork Opensuse they can’t take Yast with them. So please tell me why does yast need its own mascot?

you’ve already guessed – the suse guys are considering to make yast available for other distributions and distribute it more freely than curretly the case. the mascot seems like a first step to do so…

I’m sorry for my stupid question, but, what’s the meaning of “mascot”?!
I know, I’m totally ignorant!
