Together with my comments on last weeks weekly news abort the frequency of creating Never Versions/Revisions – I said that we should start to think about how many resources would be freed up if we released a new Version/Revision with far less frequency and concentrate on stability rather than new Versions/Releases.
Acting on bug report to fix bugs in any release, I would think is far more important than creating a new Release. I feel we should only release a new Version/Revision if bugs cannot be fixed in the current release.
If we only release a new Version/Release every 3 years we do not use up massive man hours in tooling up for new releases at the current frequency.
Service Packs which are a feature of the Licensed version of Suse, could easily be used in the openSuse project.
Here again the logic that massive man hours are consumed for just tooling up for a new release.
Given the above we could also extend the user-life-cycle of Releases/Revisions of the open product,for example Open Version 10.1 is no longer supported and no bugs will be fixed that were created against V 10.1.
Many bug reports are not really version dependent, as they are bugs that continue in current release without resolution.
If you think the above has merit could someone please submit this as an agenda item for the Board/QA Manager of Novell.DE or Suse.DE, which every has the ability to implement this type of discussion and/or change in current practice.

Could someone please give me a URL so I can submit items for the agenda in the up and coming Project Meetings – I really would like to use a much better vehicle with comments I made above and last week and other thoughts I have not published and perhaps other would like issues discussed – there may well not be a way of posting an Agenda Item as the person submitting it is not physically there to discuss it – or the meetings may either be closed or ‘In Camera’ on certain subjects.
