I didn’t know that, this clarifies a lot. Thank you.

But it does dissapoint me that Novell’s support to OpenSUSE is limited in such a way
that OpenSUSE has to ask for money for a vital component.
I thought OpenSUSE was important to Novell…

Since when is Novell begging for money when their hardware brakes down?? This is really pathetic.

Just put an urgent order for a new storage array, your boss (Novell) will pay the bill.

Definitely! The only thing I miss from KDE 3 is the possibility to use different wallpapers on diffrent workspaces.

Currently, download.opensuse.org already works with mirrorbrain – so requests are redirected to the closed mirror of the client.

…and the “Zypp-Team” is already working on a fallback solution (first try download.o.o and if that fails, use the latest mirror) – but this is something for 11.2

Interesting concept, used by other distros by providing direct mirror URLs in repo metadata. Strange that it’s not used, or download.opensuse.org was actually a kind of “traffic redirector” (I don’t think it was).
