Well, while that explains it it’s certainly pretty sad news IMHO cause it encouraged people to contribute and was a nice sign of appraisal.

Yes, it was cut and will not come back. The reason is that the distribution is now free for anybody. The free box program was set up in times when the SuSE distribution was not available for free and we thought that a free box was a good recognition of contributions.

Now, that the distro is the result of a community effort and available for freely there is no real point in the free box program any more.

First of all, thanks for your input on this.

Second of all, this particular initiative has nothing to do with the “Contributor Box” Novell sent out to selected community members in the past. That said, while we (as open-slx) like the “Contributor Box Program” in general, we have no knowledge why it hasn’t happened for 11.2. We’ll investigate this though.

To make this very clear, certainly if you review 30+ pages, you’ll receive Cap + Shirt + 11.2 Box. So, if you contribute 10 pages you qualify for a cap, another 10 pages = 20 in total and you’ll receive (in addition) a t-shirt, and finally another 10 pages = 30 in total qualifies for the 11.2 Box product (additionally). Otherwise this wouldn’t make too much sense! The MVP, after completing the whole review, will receive (in addition, we’re pretty sure the MVP will have 30+ pages in the end) the Chumby device as a special prize.

No offense but I would actually like to see you (iirc you are one of the open six folks aka the new box producers) “honor” development contributions as in packaging, testing, bug filing / tracking / fixing first. As in getting a free box was a nice gift and encouraged one to contribute but has been completely cut for 11.2 afaik (with the exception of translators).

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on that.

What if I review 30 or more pages. Can I still get the T-Shirt or do I have to deliberately stop at 20 reviewed pages, because I already have a working openSUSE 11.2 installation and don’t need another install disk? :-)
