Just to clarify things (for those who are not familiar with the ATI OSS driver situation).

There are _two_ (essentially independent and _competing_) open source driver projects for
R600/700 ATI GPUs: "radeon" and "radeonhd".

- "radeon" is developed under AMD/ATI's lead, with major contributions from Red Hat and some
independent Xorg developers. At this time "radeon" is the _only_ reasonably complete and well-working
open source driver for modern ATI cards. It provides 2D acceleration, 3D support under both UMS and KMS
(DRI and DRI2, respectively), support for OpenGL 2.1, working suspend/resume (both of these latter
features need kernel mode setting, KMS), and basic power management features.

- "radeonhd" is developed under Novell's lead, again with contributions from independent Xorg developers.
And although having been started first, the "radeonhd" project is far behind "radeon" in providing a
 useable driver.

Your suggestion to talk about the problem to ATI is pointless, as they _already provide_ a reasonable driver,
namely "radeon".

It's up to the _distros_ to package this driver with their Xorg versions, and to take care
of the order in which certain kernel modules and firmware files are loaded, which KMS needs to work
(Kernel version 2.6.33 already _has_ support for KMS on Radeon cards enabled by default!).

And here Fedora and Ubuntu are doing a great job, while openSUSE fails by making the inferior
radeonhd their default driver which lacks essentially all of the above features. There is _no_
technological reason whatsoever to prefer "radeonhd" over "radeon". The only conceivable reason is
a political one.

You might see some real results by talking to ATI directly about this issue. Realistically they have a vested interest in having their Video Cards working in Linux and may have the money to throw at this and the expertise and drive to fix it themselves and provide via Build Services. Comment below by 'roeland' was opened as Critical in January 2010 and still on Needinfo in April and its a mouse driver issue in Xorg!!!!!!!
I dont think, in the short term,(next 3 years), we are going to see Extended Video Support in the Kernel...
"What Spirit ???" - I suppose its now Easter - just a different perspective.

There were many contradictions in 11.2 Samba Default YaSt UI and KDE Samba UI. Principally Samba Yast UI shows shared Directories as Enabled as Read Only! This is not actual in KDE's Samba UI. KDE Samba UI shows RW. KDE UI Defaults to Paranoid Security and Share level Security when there is NO DC. The default share in KDE Samba UI is RO. All maps to user NOBODY. If you turn SAMBA Server On in Yast AND create a new directory for share the directory is owned by Root. Directory ownership needs to be Nobody Nogroup for KDE Samba UI to work. In KDE Samba UI you cannot edit the printer default. Edit button useless and Add Printer Non-Functional. Then if you change the File Share via Dolphin Running in root you add a third dimension UI to an impossible task! If you can get a Samba Server to RW or simple Read Only in Windows Workgroup its not via the UI and certainly not by design and its been a problem that has never been resolved in ANY from 10.1 to 11.2 Release. Easy to see developers do not use their own UI's to create a Samba Server!
