Actually openSUSE 11.1 “was” the last version with KDE 3.5. So you do have a more recent upgrade path.

There are several KDE 3 places forming… so I expect there will be a way to have KDE 3… but like you said, not necessarily fully supported.

Personally, I’d bite the bullet and try out KDE 4.4.4

It’s not horrible… but obviously DIFFERENT. And there are some things that are gone and likely NOT to return that were very useful (sad, but true). I don’t think preserving KDE 3 is the answer though.. however, a desktop environment with all of the KDE 3 features would be ok… just needs to be contemporary so it can take advantage of the fundamental changes made for all DEs out there.

Yes functionality is there, when it doesn’t crash, and if it doesn’t, it’s half the speed.

sure you are joking, evolve… is 2010 today. try to update your knowledge and stop complaining that in the new version copy/paste have different icons… in terms of functionality kde 4.4 has all the things needed for usage in 2010…

Well thanks for this although, unless KDE 3.5 is bundled as an option for upgrades beyond 11.0 I shall not be upgrading. KDE 4.xx is a very poor implementation and breaks many things. The upgrade of KDE office likewise, with most of the useful filters dropped, it ceased to be useable when I upgraded to 11.2. I have reverted to 11.0 and intend to stay here if “upgrading” means that I can no longer usefully work.
