In previous versions of openSUSE, XFCE used to load the Qt frontend of YaST for GUI. Is it possible to use YaST GTK+ GUI on this last version of openSUSE? If not, why it's not possible? what can we do to get it working properly?

Tried out XFCE last week, was reasonably impressed until I tried playing music through my external USB DAC. And no go, couldn't get it working after an hour or so's efforts and web searching. Everything works find under KDE. Ah well, this was a game breaker for me, so back to KDE ...

P.S. Parole is very basic if you have any sort of large media library.

Great to see some attention being given to XFCE on openSUSE at last. Been running it on 11.3 on a spare old PIII machine with 256mb RAM, having previously tried the Xubuntu 8.04 flavour. On openSUSE 11.3 it struggles a bit, but it's the comparative polish (or lack of it) that caused me the concern, so it's nice to see from the screenshots above that somebody's working on this. More of a KDE user myself, but for ageing hardware XFCE can eke out a few more years' useful life.

Most of all, I hope issues with GDM have been resolved because having set that up on 11.3 it is very buggy and doesn't display the user names correctly (when auto-login is disabled), sometimes even preventing login at all and requiring some command line fiddling to sort out. The default XDM login screen was ghastly and went unchanged for several releases. Congrats to Guido for making the effort and making XFCE on SUSE 11.4 a more serious proposition. Will upgrade soon and give it a spin.
