Yes, the initial direction was to go very managementy and find a unique niche for openSUSE. But that clashed heavily with what the community was doing and was interested in and most simply weren't interested in the whole process anymore. So we had to go back, re-focus and instead describe who we were and what we are doing in as little words yet as accurately as possible. That was very difficult and the end result is still not really perfect. However, I think it is a great start and a point from which we can move forward.

In the end, we're a meritocratic, bottom-up community. That means we do many things, none of which is telling people what to do. That is indeed different from the other 2 major distributions, but I guess it's also what makes us so awesome :D

This has not much to do with the initial strategy discussion and does not directly result from that imho.

I would rather have seen a clear goal and statement instead of just a few harmful words.

The intend of the strategy once was to distinct from the large number of Linux distributions which are around these days.
