In the past, we had one central openSUSE subversion (svn) repository on Novell Forge for the openSUSE infrastructure including the openSUSE Build Service. This repository has grown over time. We’ have now split the repository in some smaller projects and some repositories are now using git.

The git repositories are publicly available at gitorious.org via http://www.gitorious.org/opensuse/. Besides the Build Service and openSUSE infrastructure projects, you find at gitorious also other projects used in the openSUSE distribution, e.g. the SuSEfirewall2 project or the openSUSE kernel repository.

The migrated subversion repositories are at BerliOS and reachable via http://developer.berlios.de/projects/opensuse/. The translation repository (suse-i18n) is also moving now (details on the mailing list).

Details about the infrastructure move are in the following emails by Adrian and Coolo:

opensuse / Build Service SVN on forge.novell.com is closing

The move to git: what changes for you

Since some repositories are now using git, here’s some information about git as well:

Build Service git information

Re: The move to git: what changes for you

Thanks to Adrian, Coolo and Darix for doing the move! A big thanks to BerliOS and Gitorious for hosting these projects!

I’ll update this post once more concrete information has been published.

The bugtracking tool used by the openSUSE project is the Novell bugzilla and this system will be updated to a new upstream version (version 3.4) together with some changes requested by openSUSE community and Novell employees.

The date for this upgrade is Saturday November 14 at 9am mountain time (that is 16:00 UTC). Both Bugzilla and Testopia will be down for several hours on that day.

New Features

There is a long list of enhancements in Bugzilla 3.4 , the user visible ones include:

Simple Bug Filing

Email Addresses Hidden From Logged-Out Users

Shorter Search URLs

Dates and Times Displayed In User’s Time Zone

“See Also” Field

Re-order Columns in Search Results

Search Descriptions

Other Enhancements and Changes

Additionally the following visible changes have been implemented:

Severity = Blocker

Of particular note is the change related to Severity=Blocker. We have introduced a new defect attribute named *Blocker.* This attribute can be set to Yes or *No.* To indicate that a defect blocks testing or development activities, set this attribute to *Yes.* The Blocker attribute can be shown in search lists, and you can query for defects based on this attribute.

The Severity attribute of existing defects will not be changed. If the severity of an existing defect is Blocker, it will remain Blocker. You can continue to search for defects with Severity=Blocker. You will no longer be able to set Severity=Blocker on any defect.

Report Another One (for This Product)

This was reported by an openSUSE tester against openSUSE and is a feature available in the KDE bugzilla as well. It allows you after filing a bug report to file another bug report for the same product with the settings of the just filed bugreport reused.

Copy to New Records the Copy in the Old Bug

Copy to New is used to create new bugs for other versions of the product to make sure the a Fix gets put into multiple code bases. The New bug automatically gets the original Bug added as a Dependency, but if you are looking at the original bug, you cannot tell the other bug was created from this bug, and what that bug is.

It will now be possible to see what bug a bug was cloned from as well as any bugs that were clones of that bug.

Testopia

Additionally, the Testopia test plan tool will go from version 2.2 to 2.3. The list of fixes and enhancements for Testopia is available in the Mozilla bugzilla.

As result, our endusers normally didn’t even noticed that they get their files from a mirror instead of the original system.

Result: even if our current hoster still limits the bandwith of our main server, our users get their software faster than ever.

From openFATE’s launch in January ‘09 the addition of a new feature was limited to openSUSE members. Due and thanks to several requests out of the openSUSE community we changed this and are happy to announce today that openFATE now allows feature requests for non-members as well. This will lower the bar again to participate directly in the project and in the development of openSUSE, openSUSE Build Service and openFATE itself.
We’re looking forward to receive more qualified feature requests to make our openSUSE distribution and the project itself fit your needs better from day to day. To use openFATE please check first here

Have a lot of fun!

We do a number of software and hardware updates this week for our openSUSE servers. That means that some services will not be available for some time.

Tuesday 10:00 UTC
Maintenance of our content delivery infrastructure for about 1 hour. That means the following service will not be available:

download.opensuse.org

stage.opensuse.org

Wednesday 12:00 UTC
Maintenance of our Build Service infrastructure for about 1 hour. That means the following service will not be available:

software.opensuse.org

build.opensuse.org

api.opensuse.org

users.opensuse.org

Thursday
We will update the Factory development projects according to the new discussed list. So Build Service packages should expect a high load on the system, it will most likely not really usable at this day.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but lets hope that a larger and stronger infrastructure will offer the services to you afterwards

Good news, everybody! The download.opensuse.org and stage.opensuse.org systems are now fully restored, and all services should now be available.

DNS has been changed to point to the new system from widehat, which is standing by in the event that the new system were to go down. We also have a second system that will be configured to back up download.opensuse.org and stage.opensuse.org in the near future.

We apologize for any inconvenience. The openSUSE infrastructure is one of our top priorities. As mentioned previously, we will continue improving the openSUSE Project infrastructure and working to ensure that we have as little downtime as possible.

Thanks much to Peter Poeml for his work over the last two days to resolve this situation, as well as Christian Schneemann, Nat Friedman and his team, and everyone else who jumped to get this fixed as quickly as possible.

We appreciate the patience and words of encouragement to the openSUSE team while this was being fixed.
