I have had several goes with Open Suse and never taken to it for some reason or other mainly drivers caused alot of the problems, lets hope 11.1 works for me this time
11.1 x86_64 seems to work better than any other 64bit I’ve tried with the new hardware I have. Most hang on install. I’ll keep this one for awhile and see how it goes.
I’m newbie one month openSUSE 11.0 with KDE yet at two days openSUSE with Gnome, both with kube; and I’m very happy with openSUSE, it’s fine and run very well and the Gnome interface is really much bette with a lot of accurate function than KDE. Congratulation for all partner.
Can someone check the game packages for 11.1, neither openarena nor torcs work
Please open a bugreport in https://bugzilla.novell.com/
Product: openSUSE.org
Component: 3rd Party software
have a look at the changelog of the packages and assign the bug to this email address. This is normally the fastest way to get things fixed.
Hi
Unfortunately I had to reinstall OpenSUSE yesterday, and haven’t reinstalled the games, as I am on dial up speed, which means openarena takes about 8 hours to download, so I wouldn’t know what to post in the bug report, except what happened with each.
I can only regret one of your news: “openSUSE 10.2 has reached End of Life.” This version is, in my opinion, the most secure and stable, runs on virtually any machine and gives it a solidity that still have not seen in other version or Linux distribution.
I still have some problems with 11.1. I can’t start Blender because a libpythonso, firts boot it recongnize my soundcard, then later it does not work my soundcard anymore, suddenly my partitions appear into the desktop, can’t install correctly mi nvidia drivers via yast. I don’t know …this kind of issues don’t appear in 11.0
Open suse version does not work for Wireless lan. I am not able to access Internet. I have only to say that why Microsoft after getting into opensuse and destroying it. It was such a nice linux that why did you allow Microsoft to enter your company. It will destroy it. Now my hope is in Fedora.
MY ADVICE TO LINUX USERS. IT WILL BE BETTER AVOID USING OPEN SUSE. NOW MICROSOFT HAS SWALLOWED THE COMPANY IN THE AIM OF DESTROYING SUSE. IF YOU INSTALL SUSE, THERE WILL BE AT LEAST ONE PROBLEM. MY PROBLEM WAS THERE IS NO DRIVER FOR WIRELESS LAN. AS A RESULT I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCESS INTERNET. IT WILL BE BETTER YOU USE FEDORA VERSION 10. IT IS VERY NICE AND SOFTWARE UPDATE IS AMAZING. SO PLEASE USE FEDORA 10. A LOT OF GAMES AND A LOT OF STUFF ARE THERE.
I see the trolls don’t even take christmas breaks.
On that note, merry installation xmas ;)
Maybe you can give constructive information about your problem on IRC or on bugzilla. Fedora provides exactly the same drivers openSUSE does, and a very similar software selection. :-)
P.S. Write using proper capitalization, you are shouting!
1. openSUSE is nothing to do with Microsoft.
2. If you’re more happy with Fedora go for it, nobody is stopping you.
3. Stop trolling.
I have a linkys USB wireless adapter that, on previous versions, always required some tweaking to work. On 11.1 I was pleasantly surprised that it worked running both the gnome live CD and after the install with no effort on my part. This is an excellent version. OpenSUSE keeps getting better. Remember all you Microsoft paranoidists, the largest numbers of new users are coming from windows. I actually appreciate Novell trying to make their products work better with windows as that is the reality of most of the world (for now, at least).
microsoft sold, in the first few months, 40,000 Suse Enterprise certificates, ya that is really trying to destroy it huh.
Actually microsoft getting involved with novell has made more companies look at linux because the leading software maker is now supporting it through novell.
before you troll, learn the subject.
Hi to all, and a Happy new Year.
Wifi and netbooks,
having bought an samsung NC10 for the wife for Christmas I thought great
Peace and quite. However getting the wifi to work was something else.
I tried all the useul things but in the end downloaded every live CD I could.
Only one worked out of the Box so to speak.
The cd’s were.
Ubunto 8.04
Ubunto 8.10
Suse 11.0
Suse 11.1
puppy 4.1.2
Gos 3
Fedora 9
Mandriver
Much to My surprise The working OS was Suse 11.1.
Everything works that I have so far tried. It just leaves me to find a driver
for the cam.
I hope this was of use to someone

If you find that you cannot watch a DVD in Kaffeine without it jumping and stuttering, remove all references to pulse audio – i removed *pulse* via Yast. I can view DVD’s as i could in 11.0 and also i now have sound in Amarok2. I think the QA in 11.1 is a bit short of the mark to make it a good release but i’ll stick with it and it should get better
I moved to SUSE 11.1 from 10.2 because of the end of support as announced end of 2008. But I regret it a LOT ! 10.2 worked great right from installation, never had a problem with any device and was very stable. Now with 11.1 I have problem with all devices:
– the network manager always dies at startup and must be re-restarted from YAST manually – why?
– the sound does not work.
– it is not possible to load a data dvd/cd – dolphin and konqueror crash.
– bluetooth does not work.
…
Sad !
I agree that 11.1 is a very good release. Thank you so much.
Only one problem so far: like many others I have to deinstall “beagle” to make the system stable against lockups in graphical mode.
Beagle comes installed in default setup. With beagle running my laptop (T60p) with kde4 eventually will stop responding. Only ticking of the clock on the screen
gives a hint that system is still alive. Otherwise it is complete dead: no response to mouse, any (well many tried) keyboard keys combinations.
Only power button held for several seconds is able to kill it.
Uninstalled beagle and got a most stable system in years. Good work.
Now, may I suggest that system installed by default comes with beagle not installed.
That way you will add many more potential users to the list of happy users, instead of turning them away at their first earnest attempt of openSuSE.
Even if stable, indexing of the file system in my opinion should be kept as optional. There are too many side effects, which every one will notice even if he does not notice any benefit of the index. For example, it is quite annoying to find out that your “home” directory is all taken by the index, which beagle created. As I said, indexing should come as an add on option after explaining to the user all the side effects. So, that if I do want an index created I would at least set aside appropriate disk space.
Thanks again for a good work.
