Roundup of recent Tumbleweed highlights

Here are some highlights from the most recent Tumbleweed snapshot.

Mozilla Firefox updated to 34.0.5 from 33.1. The default search engine changed to Yahoo for North America and Yandex for Belarusian, Kazakh, and Russian locations. The update improved the search bar for English only in the U.S. and improved the Firefox Hello real-time communication client.

Mozilla Thunderbird also updataed to 31.3.0 from 31.2.0. It now requests crashes with some input streams and fixed memory safety problems and crashes.

Three seats available for openSUSE board elections

Elections to fill three seats on the openSUSE Board are set to begin in the coming weeks and candidates are needed to fill these three positions.

Individuals who apply for an openSUSE Membership will be able to vote during elections and run for candidacy

Candidates elected to the position will serve a 24-month term. The terms of Robert Schweikert and Kosta Koudaras’ will expire and the seat of Peter Linnell, who was appointed as a replacement for chairman Richard Brown, will need to be filled.

Members of the openSUSE board help to influence the future direction of the project. Members are encouraged to learn the election process, run for the board or propose a candidate.

Tumbleweed, Factory rolling releases to merge

With the release of openSUSE 13.2 in November, two of openSUSE’s open-source projects, the ‘Tumbleweed’ and ‘Factory’ rolling releases will be merging, and offered as a single openSUSE rolling release under the name ‘Tumbleweed’

Factory will remain the name of the development process where openSUSE’s new developments are integrated, with the tested, user-ready rolling release assuming the name Tumbleweed from Nov. 4.
