Status update for openSUSE Conference

The openSUSE Conference is right around the corner and attendees list keeps growing for oSC18, which will take place May 25 – 27 at the Faculty of Information Technologies of Czech Technical University in Prague.

There are about 250 people signed up to attend the conference and most of the talks have been scheduled for this year’s conference. In addition to the conference, there will be a cryptofest on May 26, which will incorporate comes oSC18. The schedule for the cryptofest list three oSC18 security-focused talks and will be room 107.

There are several track that will be taking place at the conference like an openSUSE track, a cloud and  containers track, an open source track, a desktop and application track and an embedded track. On Saturday, May 26, will be a lightingbeers talk where people will get a free beer and give a short 5 minutes talks; people can sign up for this at http://bit.ly/2wtjczw.

There will be a wide range of speakers from many different open-source projects, and on Sunday, May 27, there will be an unconference in room 107; people can submitted their ideas for talks at the unconference on the Friday and Saturday. A schedule for the unconference will be made available for the last day.

On the first day of the conference, there will be the release of openSUSE Leap 15 at 14:00 local time or 12:00 UTC. Later that evening, there will be the conference after party, release party at the venue.

Fun, fun, fun at OSC11

The Zentrifuge, our conference location this year, is build in an old factory that was used for the production of washing machines (centrifuge, get it?). The bridging between technology and art is an important concern for them and thus our conference, as a technology conference, tries to cross that bridge too. Of course we also follow our motto Have a lot of fun… in this endeavor and throw a little party into the mix as well. So here is our blend of social events at OSC11.

openSUSE 11.4 made a splash

Yesterday, openSUSE 11.4 saw the light of day. This release introduced some awesome new features and this was noticed by Linux users on social media and the press around the world. Of course we’ve got a huge spike in visits but also the number of downloads has been enormous, almost twice as much as for the openSUSE 11.3 release! (more…)

Live.Code.Party.

openSUSE 11.4 is going to be released this Thursday (March 10th, 2011) and there is no better way to enjoy the new release than having fun with your fellow openSUSE Lizards! That’s why community members all over the world prepare launch parties. Launch parties are events around the release of a new openSUSE version, what kind of event is up to the organizers. But it’s usually about sharing knowledge with each other, get new people to know the distribution, the tools and the project and most important about having a lot of fun, celebrating our success! Just a reminder, we will have a party on the releasy day in Nuremberg. If you are nearby, don’t miss it! We plan to have some demo systems, burn service and of course some food and drinks. It’s on December, 18th, 18:00-21:00 CET.
