OSC2010 Sneak Peaks – Conference keynotes you shouldn’t miss!

12 days from now it will be the 20th of October - the day the openSUSE Conference will start in Nuremberg, Germany. The conference will be kicked of by keynotes on Wednesday and Friday. With the keynotes we aim to inspire and energize our visitors, sharing some insights or a look at things they haven’t seen before. Henne talks in his opening keynote about how openSUSE has become more open - and how you should take advantage of that if you want to change things. On Friday, Gerald talks about the place of Novell in the openSUSE community and how and why it supports us.

Kick Ass The opening key note on Wednesday will be given by Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE Board Member and active in various open source projects. His key note is titled “Get your ass up!”. The idea is that he’ll then kick it - or rather, we should get of our collective asses. Henne wants to talk about the heart and soul of Free Software Communities: how we work, how things change. Influence in a community is based on doing. Everyone is equal and if you want to change things, speak up and influence the project. And how: you need to release early, release often. Everything! Not only code but your frustrations, ideas and plans also. That means that people will see your early errors. People will spot your inconsistencies. People will get on your nerves with their own ideas about your stuff. But it also means you don’t have be 100% correct, don’t have to be 100% ready and you don’t have to do 100% yourself. openSUSE & Novell - an odd couple? On Friday October 22, 9:30am Gerald Pfeifer, director of product management in Novell and a long time free and open source contributor will open the 3rd day of this year’s openSUSE conference with his view on the relationship between Novell and it’s development teams and the wider openSUSE community. He will elaborate on the reasons why Novell is supporting openSUSE and working with and within the community. He will further discuss how the project is an open community and how there are almost limitless possibilities to contribute and influence things in openSUSE, changing the future for one of the major Free Software products in the world.
