Committee Accepting Proposals for openSUSE.Asia Summit

March 3rd, 2017 by

The openSUSE.Asia organization committee is accepting proposals to host the openSUSE.Asia Summit during the second half of 2017. The openSUSE.Asia Summit is the largest annual openSUSE conference in Asia and is attended by contributors and enthusiasts from all over Asia.

The event focuses primarily on the openSUSE distribution and its applications for personal and enterprise use. It brings together the openSUSE community in Asia to provide a forum for users, developers, foundation leaders, governments and businesses to discuss the present technology and future developments.

Past Summits

The last openSUSE.Asia Summit was in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in 2016. The Summit’s preference is to find new locations each year as we spread openSUSE throughout Asia, and we are looking for local organizers to rise to the challenge of organizing an excellent openSUSE event. We need individuals and communities to get together and organize a successful openSUSE.Asia Summit. The openSUSE.Asia organization committee assists throughout the  process. Tumbleweed changes fonts, Leap gets several updates

November 27th, 2015 by

Tumbleweed-black-greenTumbleweed had one snapshot so far this week that brought more appeal to users of openSUSE.

Snapshot 20151123 changed fonts for openSUSE. The terminal font changed to Adobe Code Pro and Roboto was also added as the default font.

The fonts are not only available in Tumbleweed; users of Leap can update the fonts as an option. The reason for the change was to provide a more appealing, complete font.

Wireshark upgraded to 2.0 in Tumbleweed and the new features are a new user interface. The legacy interface is expected to be removed in Wireshark 2.2. Wireshark’s RPM-based package definition provides the new interface in the “wireshark-qt” package and the old interface in the “wireshark-gtk” package.

Fixes were made for Boost version 1.59 and GStreamer 1.6 and these two are expected to make it into a Tumbleweed snapshot soon. (more…)

The first openSUSE Asia Summit is announced…

July 14th, 2014 by

The first ever openSUSE Summit in Asia will take place in Beihang University, Beijing on October 18th and 19th, 2014. We aim to promote the use of openSUSE and other free open source software in the region. We will have a series of talks, discussions and workshops that will induct people into the openSUSE Project. The goal of the Summit is to provide a platform for everyone to understand openSUSE so that it becomes easier to use and contribute to it. It is also a great opportunity for openSUSE contributors and users from all over Asia who have only been interacting online with each other so far, to meet face to face. And to learn about various free and open technologies, sharing experiences with each other and having a lot of fun.

So what are you waiting for? Come join us in beautiful Bejing!
